The Brazilian National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) participated in the Global Age Assurance Standards Summit 2025, held from April 8-10 in Amsterdam. The event discussed standards and solutions for age verification in digital environments, aimed at ensuring the safety of children and adolescents online. <\/p>\n\n
The Brazilian delegation, coordinated by the Ministry of Justice and Public Security, included Jorge Fontelles de Lima and Lucas Anjos from ANPD, along with representatives from the Federal Police, Rio de Janeiro Court of Justice, SaferNet, Desconecta Movement, and Alana Institute, strengthening the coordination between government, judiciary, academia, and civil society.<\/p>\n\n
ANPD detailed actions in Brazil, such as including child and youth protection in the 2025-2026 Regulatory Agenda; collecting input for specific regulations; and publishing, in 2023, an interpretative statement on legal bases for processing minors’ data, emphasizing the best interests of the child.<\/p>\n\n
Technical studies on age verification were shared that will inform future guidance to ensure compliance with the Brazilian General Data Protection Law (LGPD). In enforcement, the protection of minors’ data is a priority in the 2024-2025 Theme Map, covering digital platforms, artificial intelligence, and biometric collection in sports. <\/p>\n\n
In a session dedicated to Brazil, CONANDA Resolutions No. 245 and 257 were discussed, which require age confirmation by companies, as well as Bill No. 2,628\/2023, approved in December 2024, which imposes additional duties on digital platforms for the protection of minors.<\/p>\n\n
ANPD’s presence reinforces its commitment to rights-based digital governance and the protection of vulnerable groups, strengthening Brazil’s role in international forums and promoting national regulatory solutions to make the digital environment safer for children and adolescents.<\/p>\n\n
