On August 7, Brazilian National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) hosted the 2nd Meeting of Data Protection Officers, gathering over 500 in-person attendees and more than 5,700 online viewers. The initiative aimed to strengthen Brazil’s data protection culture and promote dialogue across the public sector, private organizations, and academia.
In his opening remarks, ANPD President Waldemar Gonçalves stressed the importance of balancing technological development with the protection of fundamental rights. He reiterated that the Authority is technically prepared to assume the role of the central body of Brazil’s forthcoming National AI Governance System (SIA), provided it is ensured the necessary institutional strengthening.
