Brazil and Chile established an important bilateral cooperation in Artificial Intelligence with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding during Chilean President Gabriel Boric’s visit to Brazil. The agreement was signed on Friendship Day between the two countries (April 22) by Brazil’s Minister of Science, Technology and Innovation, Luciana Santos, and her Chilean counterpart, Aisen Etcheverry.
The partnership aims to develop AI systems, including language models, that are compatible with regional priorities and characteristics, focusing on the inclusion of diverse Latin American languages and cultural expressions. The memorandum provides for the creation of a favorable regulatory environment, with policies that encourage responsible innovation and respect intellectual property and traditional knowledge.
Among the objectives of the agreement are the implementation of joint projects between universities, research centers, and technology companies; the exchange of researchers and students; and the strengthening of high-performance computing infrastructures with shared access. Minister Luciana Santos emphasized that this strategic cooperation demonstrates both countries’ commitment to scientific and technological development and inclusion.
The Chilean agenda for artificial intelligence has several points of convergence with the Brazilian agenda, especially with the Brazilian Artificial Intelligence Plan (PBIA).
