On May 26, 2025, during the XXI Meeting of the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD), held in Cartagena de Indias, Colombia, the Brazilian National Data Protection Authority (ANPD) was unanimously elected to preside over the Ibero-American Data Protection Network (RIPD) for the 2025–2027 term.
The Ibero-American Data Protection Network was established in 2003 and is composed of public sector entities—typically data protection authorities—such as Brazil’s ANPD. Among its member countries are Brazil, Portugal, Spain, Argentina, Chile and Colombia.
In addition to the RIPD presidency, the ANPD also leads the Lusophone Data Protection Network, which includes Portuguese-speaking countries.
The ANPD’s appointment to the presidency of international data protection networks reflects the external recognition and regulatory maturity of Brazil’s General Data Protection Law, highlighting the country’s leadership in the global privacy and data protection agenda.
