An audit conducted by Brazil’s Federal Court of Accounts (TCU) found that the Supreme Federal Court (STF) is the most advanced judiciary body in implementing the General Data Protection Law (LGPD).
The survey assessed 387 federal agencies and entities using questionnaires covering nine key areas, including preparation, leadership, compliance in personal data processing, data subject rights, incident response, and protective measures.
Among 67 Judiciary institutions, only 14 reached the highest level of maturity in LGPD adaptation. The STF scored 88.09%, earning the classification of “enhanced.” It was followed by the Espírito Santo Regional Electoral Court (TRE-ES) at 84.9% and the Superior Court of Justice (STJ) at 79.76%.
According to Teresa Melo, Secretary of Relations with Society, the STF’s score could have been even higher if the audit had considered actions still in progress. Luísa Lacerda, Special Advisor to the Presidency and responsible for coordinating the STF’s LGPD compliance, emphasized that the result reflects the commitment of Minister Luís Roberto Barroso’s management to consolidating a culture of data protection.
